Karen Kan, MD (formerly Dr. Guenette) launched Integrative Medicine & Acupuncture, P.C. after her own experience with the process of healing her chronic illness through holistic medicine.
Although there is no known cure for her condition, Dr. Kan has been able to appreciate the gifts that this illness has brought to herself and to her patients, by always being open to new ways of healing and innovative natural therapies.
Dr. Kan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Ottawa School of Medicine, Canada, and became board certified in Family Medicine in both Canada and USA. Currently she retains her board certification in the United States. At the University of Ottawa, she experienced month-long intensives in acupuncture and clinical hypnosis during her residency training.
She has worked for several medically underserved communities in New York and California and has also been an Associate Professor at the Santa Monica-UCLA Family Residency Program teaching medical students and residents. While at UCLA, she was co-chair of the Evidence-based Medicine curriculum.
Her formal acupuncture training was completed with the UCLA Medical Acupuncture for Physicians course in 2000. Today, Dr. Kan continues her education in the healing arts with various trainers and master teachers from various disciplines.
Dr. Kan is an avid singles and pairs figure skater, West African drummer & dancer, and a student of yoga, Pilates, Zumba and Capoiera. She resides with her partner, James Gann, in Lake Placid, NY.
